Visiting can be cancelled for lockdowns, weather or count problems. Call the facility the day before you travel.

Dress code

  • No sleeveless tops, halter tops, tank tops, see-through clothing, spandex, or strapless dresses
  • Skirts, shorts, culottes and skorts no shorter than 2 inches above the knee
  • Undergarments must be worn at all times
  • No clothing with offensive logos or profane language
  • Footwear must stay on the entire visit (no removing shoes)
  • Dress code applies to children as well as adults

You may bring

  • Valid picture ID (driver's license or similar government photo ID)
  • Valid vehicle registration and insurance (required to enter Maxwell AFB)
  • One small clear plastic change purse
  • Vehicle keys
  • Feminine hygiene articles
  • Small clear plastic diaper bag with a day's worth of diapers, sealed formula/baby food, spoon, bib, wipes, one small blanket, and an umbrella-type collapsible stroller

Not allowed

  • Cell phones, pagers, and other communication devices (must stay in the car)
  • Toys
  • Tobacco products (tobacco-free facility)
  • Outside food (except sealed baby food)
  • Prescription medication, ordinarily (exceptions only with Duty Officer approval)

Good to know

ID requirements
A picture-type government-issued ID (e.g., driver's license) is required for every visitor; a Notification to Visitor Form (BP-224) must also be signed each visit.
Children
Children under 16 must be accompanied and directly supervised by an approved adult visitor at all times, including the outdoor patio area; a children's area is provided in the visiting room.
Vending machines
Vending machines are available for food; visitors may not bring in outside food (sealed factory baby food is the only exception).
Money you may bring
Inmates may not handle money at all; visitors may not leave money with staff for the inmate's account.
  • Enter Maxwell Air Force Base via the Bell Street gate only
  • No entry onto the base or into the Visiting Room after 2:00 p.m.
  • Visitors must be on the inmate's approved visiting list before arriving
