Visiting days depend on your loved one

Each housing unit is assigned a rotating visiting day (posted monthly), and every visit must be pre-scheduled by email - you can't walk in. Male, female, and SHU populations each have their own scheduling pattern.

Rotation: Each housing unit is assigned a visiting day on a rotating schedule (posted monthly on TRULINCS and the BOP website); all visits must be prescheduled by email. Male general population inmates get one 1.5-hour visit per week plus additional time on Saturdays/holidays.

Visiting can be cancelled for lockdowns, weather or count problems. Call the facility the day before you travel.

Dress code

  • No athletic wear (sweatpants, gym shorts, etc.)
  • No hats or scarves (including around the neck or waist)
  • No sleeveless tops, tank tops, or jerseys; no sunglasses
  • No tube tops, midriffs, or low-cut/tight (spandex) or see-through clothing
  • Shorts no more than 2 inches above the knee; skirts/dresses must be knee-length or lower
  • No open-toed shoes, thigh/knee-high boots, or watches
  • Jackets/sweaters must stay on the whole visit if worn in
  • No grey sweatpants, white T-shirts, or yellow/orange clothing (resembles inmate attire)

You may bring

  • Valid state/government-issued photo ID (required for visitors age 16 and older)
  • Small clear plastic wallet/change purse with up to $20 in $1/$5 bills and coins
  • Life-sustaining medication (inhalers, nitroglycerin tablets, etc.)
  • For infants/toddlers: 2 diapers, baby wipes in a clear container, one bottle, one clear Sippy cup, one baby blanket
  • Legal materials (attorney visits only)

Not allowed

  • Cell phones, cameras, and other electronics without prior Warden approval
  • Weapons, flammable items, explosives, narcotics or drug paraphernalia
  • Gum, candy, lozenges, outside food, or drinks
  • Jewelry other than a plain wedding band; no watches
  • Pets of any kind

Good to know

ID requirements
All visitors age 16 and older must present a valid state/government-issued photo ID card. If a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card is presented, staff may request a second form of ID.
Children
Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult on the visiting list; those 16-17 may visit alone only with written parental/guardian permission. Visitors 16 and older need a valid photo ID. Children must stay controlled and seated or the visit may be terminated, and no children under 18 are allowed in SHU visits.
Vending machines
Only visitors may use the vending machines and microwaves; inmates cannot handle money or access the machines. Food must be emptied onto a supplied paper plate and fully eaten in the visiting room before the visit ends.
Money you may bring
Up to $20.00 total, in $1 and $5 bills and coins, carried in one small clear plastic wallet/change purse no larger than a gallon-size zip-lock bag
  • All visits must be prescheduled by emailing PHL-VisitingScheduler-S@bop.gov with inmate and visitor details
  • Do not arrive more than 15 minutes before your scheduled visiting time
  • Visitor processing (check-in) stops 1 to 1.5 hours before the end of the scheduled visiting hours
  • Lockers are available at the Front Lobby for storing items not allowed inside
  • Visitors traveling less than 100 miles are considered local, which can affect priority during overcrowding
