Points / frequency: 10 points per month per inmate. Weekday visit = 1 point (FCI only); weekend/holiday visit = 2 points. Attorney and clergy visits do not count against points.

Visiting can be cancelled for lockdowns, weather or count problems. Call the facility the day before you travel.

Dress code

  • No see-through, provocative, or revealing clothing
  • No bathing suits, swimwear, sleeveless, halter, or tube tops
  • No shorts or skirts more than 3 inches above the knee
  • No khaki, tan, beige, or military-green clothing (resembles inmate attire)
  • No spandex, leotards, tights, or hooded shirts
  • No hats or head coverings, except for religious purposes
  • No flip-flops, shower shoes, or beach shoes
  • No watches; pants may not be tucked into boots or shoes

You may bring

  • Valid government photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.)
  • Small clear coin purse with up to $40 cash per adult visitor
  • Infant necessities: diapers, bottles/formula, baby food, one spoon
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Life-saving medication (held at the visiting officer's desk)

Not allowed

  • Cameras, cell phones, or recording equipment
  • Photos, documents, or any papers for the inmate to sign
  • Large purses, strollers, baby carriers, or toys
  • Wallets/billfolds or extra clothing
  • Food, except baby food/formula for infants
  • Pocket knives or other sharp objects

Good to know

ID requirements
All visitors must show valid state or government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.) and pass through a walk-through metal detector; sign in and out of the visitor log.
Children
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an approved parent or legal guardian; those 16-17 may visit alone with written parental/guardian consent. The accompanying adult is responsible for supervising children at all times, and an uncontrolled child can end the visit.
Vending machines
Coin-operated vending machines in the visiting room are for visitors only. Food must be opened and placed on a plate; food/drinks cannot be shared or passed between visitor and inmate, and nothing purchased may leave the visiting room.
Money you may bring
Up to $40 in currency per adult visitor, carried in a small clear coin purse (max 10 inches)
  • Do not arrive before 6:30 a.m.; no entry to start a visit after 12:00 p.m.
  • SHU visits are Sunday only, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.; request by the prior Thursday
  • Lockers are available in the Front Lobby for storing unauthorized items
  • If visits end early for overcrowding, local visitors (within 50 miles) are asked to leave first
  • Taxi numbers are posted for visitors without a ride after their visit
