Visiting days depend on their register number

Weekend visiting alternates by the 5th digit of the inmate's register number: odd numbers visit on 'odd' weekends, even numbers on 'even' weekends. Friday evenings and federal holidays are open to everyone, at both the FCI and its satellite camp (FSL).

Before you book anything, ask your loved one which day and time they're assigned — by phone, email or letter — and confirm it with the facility. The calendar shows every possible visiting day at this facility, not necessarily theirs.

Rotation: Weekend (Saturday/Sunday) visiting is rotated by the 5th digit of the inmate's register number: odd-numbered inmates visit on 'odd' weekends, even-numbered (0 counts as even) inmates visit on 'even' weekends. Friday evening visiting and Federal Holidays are open to all inmates (no rotation). Visitors are not processed after 2:00 p.m. on weekends or after 8:00 p.m. during Friday evening visiting, and are discouraged from arriving before 8:00 a.m. or 5:00 p.m. since they won't be processed early.

Points / frequency: Weekend visiting alternates by 'odd' vs 'even' register number (5th digit) so each inmate visits every other weekend; Friday evenings and federal holidays are unrestricted for all inmates. If more than 6 authorized visitors arrive at once, a 'split visit' is arranged (one group leaves so another can visit); only one such interchange is allowed per day and those waiting must leave the grounds, not wait in the parking lot.

Visiting can be cancelled for lockdowns, weather or count problems. Call the facility the day before you travel.

Dress code

  • No shorts or skirts above the knee, or form-fitting/sexually suggestive clothing
  • No gray sweatshirts/sweatpants or khaki/orange clothing that resembles inmate uniforms
  • No loud, boisterous talk or profane language while being processed or during the visit
  • No sunglasses, except prescription sunglasses
  • Dress must avoid styles that could be confused with inmate clothing

You may bring

  • Valid photo ID if 16 or older (driver's license, state ID, passport, military ID, or INS card — foreign licenses accepted)
  • A clear plastic container or small clear change purse, about the size of a wallet
  • For infants: premixed formula/liquids/food in sealed original containers, up to 3 clear nursing bottles, 4 diapers, wet wipes, and 1 small blanket
  • Prescription sunglasses, if needed

Not allowed

  • Cell phones, pagers, cameras, radios, tape/photo equipment, or electronic games/toys
  • Watches, large handbags, umbrellas, blankets (other than the one infant blanket), luggage, or packages
  • Newspapers, magazines, books, personal papers, pens, or pencils
  • Food, chewing gum, or medication (except nitroglycerin tablets or HSA-approved medication)
  • Toys, books, cards, dolls, crayons, or games for children, including electronic devices
  • Baby powders, ointments, creams, bowls, cups, baby carriers, or strollers

Good to know

ID requirements
Visitors 16 and older must present valid photo ID: driver's license, state ID card, INS card, military ID, or passport (foreign licenses accepted). Unofficial ID (credit cards, store cards, school ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, bank cards) is not accepted. No valid photo ID means no visit.
Children
Children under 16 may not visit unless accompanied by a responsible adult (exceptions require Warden approval). Children must be supervised and kept from wandering, running, or being noisy, or the visit may be terminated. Mothers who breastfeed are given privacy in an attorney/client room, with only mother and child present.
Vending machines
Vending machines are not mentioned in this document; food items are generally not permitted in the visiting room.
Money you may bring
None — visitors may not leave any money for deposit into an inmate's account, and no cash amount is described as allowed to be carried into the visiting room
  • Visitors are discouraged from arriving before 8:00 a.m. (weekends) or 5:00 p.m. (Friday) — you won't be processed early
  • Weekend processing cuts off at 2:00 p.m.; Friday evening processing cuts off at 8:00 p.m.
  • Up to 6 visitors (including children) can be in the Visiting Room at once; larger groups may need a 'split visit'
  • If overcrowding forces terminations, visitors local to within 75 miles are asked to leave first so out-of-town visitors can stay
  • Local taxi service from Lisbon, Salem, and East Liverpool, Ohio can transport visitors to FCI Elkton
  • SHU (Special Housing Unit) visits end 30 minutes before the end of regular visiting hours, so expect a shorter/delayed visit
