Points / frequency: Both FCI and FPC inmates work on a monthly visiting-point system reset on the 1st of each month; a weekend day visit costs 2 points and a holiday visit costs 1 point (see notes for a contradiction in the total monthly points).

Visiting can be cancelled for lockdowns, weather or count problems. Call the facility the day before you travel.

Dress code

  • No tight-fitting or stretch clothing such as leggings or spandex
  • No see-through, low-cut, halter, tank, or sleeveless tops; shoulders must be covered
  • No hoodies, sweatpants, jogging shorts, or hooded jackets
  • No flip-flops, open-toe, or open-back shoes
  • No hats, caps, bandanas, or headwear except approved religious headwear
  • No khaki, tan, beige, brown, or green clothing (resembles the inmate uniform)
  • No camouflage, torn/ripped clothing, gang symbols, or sports-team apparel
  • Shorts, skirts, and dresses (including slits) no more than 1 inch above the knee

You may bring

  • One clear change purse (max 6"x6") with allowed coins/card
  • A comb or hairbrush
  • A sweater, light jacket, or coat
  • For infants: bottles, diapers/wipes in a clear container, sealed baby food, a change of clothes, and a small blanket
  • Life-maintenance medication for cardiac or epileptic conditions, and inhalers

Not allowed

  • Cameras or any recording equipment (unless pre-approved by the Warden)
  • Diaper bags and baby carriers
  • Magazines, newspapers, books, photographs, or photo albums
  • Matches, lighters, or tobacco products (this is a tobacco-free institution)
  • Food or beverages, except sealed infant items
  • Watches, sunglasses, or loose jewelry (jewelry may only be worn, not carried)

Good to know

ID requirements
Visitors 16 and older need valid photo ID: federal/state/local government ID, a U.S. passport (with visa stamp if applicable), a Consulate ID/border-crossing card, a valid U.S. military ID, or a high school/college photo ID. Checks, business cards, or other easily-produced IDs are not accepted; expired or altered IDs are refused. Children under 16 accompanied by a parent/guardian are exempt.
Children
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult family member on the inmate's approved visiting list. Visitors 16-17 years old who are unaccompanied need written approval from a parent, legal guardian, or an immediate family member 18 or older. The children's play area uses 30-minute sign-up slots, and a parent/guardian must supervise directly and clean up after use.
Vending machines
Vending machines are available in the Visiting Room for visitors; inmates are not permitted to use them or handle currency.
Money you may bring
One clear change purse (max 6"x6") with up to $20 in U.S. quarters (two rolls, unwrapped) and/or one credit/debit card for vending only; no cash may be left for an inmate's account.
  • All visitors are screened with a metal detector (walk-through at the FCI, hand-held at the FPC) and go through a random pat-search process
  • Visitors' hands are stamped with invisible ink, checked with a black light on exit from the visiting room and again at the control center
  • Non-contact video visiting applies only to SHU inmates at both the FCI and FPC — check with the Unit Team before planning a trip for a SHU inmate
  • Inmates may purchase photo tickets; photos with visitors are taken Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. (not available for SHU inmates)
